Forward on raw materials

In a forward on raw materials the price is agreed of a future transaction of a determined amount of a defined raw material. Settlement is offset, without physical delivery of goods.

It will be useful to you if your company has to buy or sell raw materials in the future or regularly during a period of time (average rate purchase or sale).

1. Purchase


If your company has to buy petroleum within 9 months, it is exposed to price increases and your supply costs will be affected. With a forward on petroleum you can fix today the price at which you will buy petroleum for 9 months, eliminating uncertainty in your profit and loss account.

Upon maturity of the period:

  • Receives the market price of the petroleum
  • Pays a fixed price stipulated at the start of the contract.

2. Sale


If your company has to sell aluminium within 6 months, it is exposed to the price going down and your income for sales will be affected. With a forward you can fix today the price at which you will sell the aluminium within 6 months, eliminating uncertainty in your profit and loss account.

Upon maturity of the period:

  • Pays the market price of the aluminium
  • Receives a fixed price stipulated at the start of the contract.

3. Purchase by average rate


If your company plans to buy zinc regularly over the next 12 months, it is exposed to the price increasing and your supply costs will be affected. With a forward average rate you can fix today the average price at which you will buy the zinc over the 12 months, eliminating uncertainty in your profit and loss account.

At expiration of every monthly period, the client:

  • Receives the average market price of the zinc during the said period.
  • Pays a fixed price stipulated at the start of the contract.

The forward settled by offset. The effect of the settlements of the forward rate for the client is neutralizing the variable payment of your supply to make it fixed.

4. Sale by average rate


If your company plans to sell brass regularly over the next 12 months, it is exposed to the price going down and your income for sales will be affected. With a forward average rate you can fix today the average price at which you will sell brass over the 12 months, eliminating uncertainty from your profit and loss account.

At expiration of every monthly period, the client:

  • Pays the average market price of brass during the said period.
  • Receives a fixed price stipulated at the start of the contract.

The forward settled by offset. The effect of the settlements of the forward for the client consists of neutralizing the variable payment of your sales to make it fixed.
